I can't believe I've been back from Mrs. America for 2 weeks now! I am still so tired! Oh well--been nice to be home with the kids and my hubby again! The entire experience was interesting! Just wanted to give a big shout out to Pete for helping me feel and look so sassy in my swimsuit! I've posted more details on my blog:

Countdown to Mrs. America
Posted On 08/21/2008 18:21:02

Wow! i can't believe I leave in 5 days for Tuscon, AZ for the Mrs. America pageant! Pete has been working my hiney off (literally!). 5 days a week in the gym with him plus an additional cardio session 3-5 days a week. Mrs. KS has never won or made top 5. I'm aiming for top 10! That would be such an accomplishment given that 50 great ladies are competing!

Wish me luck!

Better Speech and Hearing Month
Posted On 05/21/2008 22:34:50

May is Better Speech & Hearing month sponsored by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

If you or your child doesn't already have a portable music player or something similar, chances are that you will purchase one soon.. It's great that we can enjoy music through advances in audio technology, but at what price? With the increasing popularity of MP3 players, millions of adults and children across the U.S. are at a newfound risk of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss. Listening to headphones at high volumes for extended periods of time can directly result in lifelong hearing loss. The loss may occur painlessly and gradually over time and – this is important! – Noise-Induced Hearing Loss often goes unnoticed until it's too late.

More than half of high school students in the U.S. report having at least one symptom of hearing loss according to a 2006 poll commissioned by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. But it's not too late to curtail further hearing loss entirely in younger kids who are just starting to use portable music players and similar devices. It's critical that children learn good listening habits, and that parents set guidelines for headphone usage, monitor noise levels, and watch for warning signs of hearing loss. Here are three simple steps you can take to protect your children's – and your own – hearing.

1. Keep the volume down. A good guide is half volume.

2. Limit listening time. Give your hearing "quiet breaks."

3. Upgrade your earbuds, which sit inside the ear, and frequently come with the purchase of a portable music player, to earphones that fit outside the ear and block out unwanted sound. You can also upgrade to earphones that fit snugly into the ear canal and do the same thing.

Hi all! Thanks for all the "congrats" comments/messages I received. How fun it is to realize I have an extended family cheering me on!

I took a week off but am back in the gym with Pete. Geez! I'm sore, like the first day all over again :)

Pageant outcome!!
Posted On 04/29/2008 11:38:37

Woo Hoo! What an amazing weekend! I felt so confident and had a great time! I won the title of Mrs. KS America 2008! Even more exciting...this mom of 5 won swimsuit! Go Pete! All of the judges made very positive comments about my physical fitness after the pageant. Pete is amazing! Now I have to figure out how to get him to Mrs. America with me!

I also won evening gown, congeniality, photogenic, ad pages, and ticket sales! Mrs. America here we come!!

It's here
Posted On 04/23/2008 06:59:50

Well all...tomorrow is the start of the pageant weekend. I have my dress (beautiful!), I look pretty good in my swimsuit (thanks Pete for all the lunges, ab work, and cardio!), and I feel confident with my ability to interview well.

I'm going to have a great time with a great group of married women! Should be fun ! Thanks for all the votes of confidence. Will post after the pageant to let you all know how it was.

Regardless of the outcome...I feel successful! I've lost over 40 lbs, am in better shape now than when I was 20, and have made a great new set of friends (Pete and Tess rock!).

The final countdown...
Posted On 04/14/2008 22:32:41

Ok...so only 10 more days until the pageant weekend begins! I'm so excited. I've received so many compliments on my figure! Thanks Pete!

I tried on my evening gown last weekend and get to pick it up on Sun in OKC! It is a Kayne original (from Project Runway season 3)...I am so pumped. It is amazing!

Regardless of the outcome of the pageant, i am pleased! My goal was to look smokin in a bikini and I think we've accomplished that!   Not bad for a mommy of 5!

34 days and counting
Posted On 03/21/2008 08:00:04

Wow! There are only 34 more days until the Mrs. KS America pageant. I am so excited...nervous but excited. I've met many of the ladies and they seem very nice.

Pete has been busting my hiney at the gym! It is good though...will pay off when I'm on stage in that swimsuit.

The closer to the competition dates, the more I am reminded of one of my favorite sayings: The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

not so bad
Posted On 02/26/2008 10:33:10

Ok, so after dreading my appt with Pete after 2 weeks of no training...not so bad. Only gained 3 pounds. He really inspired me to get back into the groove! 58 days and counting!
