Viewing 10 - 18 out of 20 Fitness Journals.
I did a 6 mile run yesterday and my right heel was really painfull today. This is the second time that it's happened after a run so I guess I need to replace my running shoes. So I didn't run today. On another note...Welcome to New England. It's been barely into the low 60's for many weeks, but today it hit close to 90 with high humidity. I had a lot of prep work to buy food and check my gear for the Rainier climb next weekend. So I took care of that and thought that I should get some kind of workout. Since my heel was hurting it would be a perfect day for a bike ride. If you've followed my journals, my bike was out of commission due to a broken derailer tensioner. But I took two tensioners off another bike, cleaned the rust with a Brillo pad, re-greased them, and put them on my bike. Worked like a charm. But I only had time for a short ride so I did 5 miles. It was hot!
Well, after 6 days of not working out, 2 physical therapy appts, and a massage to ease the pain of the pulled muscles in my right leg, I started working out again. It's amazing how missing those 6 days has hurt my routine. I did the ski hill for an hour today with only 45 lbs in the pack and it took me longer than with the 60 lbs before I hurt myself. But at least I have healed. I was getting worried that it would compronise my climb. I guess I have to be very careful for the next 12 days. Can't wait to personally meet the 5 guys on the team and start the ascent.
Damn. I woke up Monday AM with a pulled muscle along the IT band on my right leg and haven't been able to workout since Sunday. This was supposed to be my final hard week before tapering for Mt Rainier and I haven't been able to do anything. The muscle feels like a closet pole is running up my leg. I had a massage Tuesday and it was a bit better Wed, but it's still to tight to do much.
This is one of the sources of intel that I am following for my climb- www.mountrainierclimbing.blogspot.com. We were going to go up via Emmons route but that now has to many cravasses and the snow bridges have collapsed so we are now looking at the Disappointment Cleaver (DC) route.
I did 3 miles on the Stairmaster last night with my 60 lb pack and felt great. It was good to not have any pain so I definately needed to take a few days off because I was over-training. However, I would like to be at my ideal weight of 170 lbs and I'm still 175. I was down to 172 but have put afew back on now that I'm not doing as much cardio. This is not a real big deal, but that extra 5 lbs would be nice to lose so I don't have to carry that up the mountain.
I did two hours up and down the ski hill with my 60 lb pack today and felt much better after having taken a few days off. Only 26 days before the climb.

I cut down, chopped up, split, and stacked another dead tree from the back yard. Tho' not a typical workout I'm sure that I built some strength and burned some calories. I also mowed the lawn. I'm getting back into my real workouts tomorrow. I felt that I had to take some time off because I was just feeling weak and sore all the time.
I'm a few weeks early, but feel that I have to start tapering off so that I fully recover for the climb on June 14. I am feeling a bit weak. For example, I usually do the eliptical at level 16, and maintain 70 RPMs +/-. Tonight I had to drop to level 15 and averaged about 62 RPMs. Plus my back is sore between the shoulder blades-probably from rock climbing yesterday. This decrease in ebergy could also be due to a low level allergy problem. My chest seems tighter than usual.
It seems like almost every day I have some type of pain. Today it was low back pain. I stretched this morning, but it didn't help much. I had a lot of yard work including cuting some rotten limbs off a tree and cleaning up some deadfalls in the back yard. Then I cut up the wood, split it, and stracked it. This did not help my back pain. I finished the day with a 6 mile run. The back didn't bother me much, until I stopped.
